(PICZ) 41 Year Old Woman Found Out She Was Pregnant 15 Hours Before She Gave Birth

article-2380707-1B0BBEFC000005DC-65_634x462
This woman Amanda Ross who is 41 has given birth to her first baby just 15 hours after discovering she was pregnant. She has never been pregnant before and thought she just had stomach upset when labour set in.
While shopping with her partner,Paul Dean she had been feeling bloated and blamed it on constipation and went to her local health centre where they gave her a scan – and told her she was probably seven or eight months pregnant.
She said:
‘My first reaction when they told me I was pregnant was one of sheer terror.
‘I thought “Oh my God”, I could have done this ten years ago – but I’m in my 40s.
‘It was a massive shock and I still can’t believe it. It’s going to get some getting used to.’‘I had no idea I was expecting – there’d been no flutters, no cravings, no kicking, no morning sickness, no kicking, nothing.
‘We were totally unprepared for a new baby – we hadn’t even got a cotton bud.‘Thankfully our families have been really good, running around to get everything we need.’
Stunned Paul, 53, has been with Amanda for 14 years and neither of them work. He is already dad to Andrew, 34, and daughter Jessica, 32.
He said:
‘I thought ‘where the hell did that come from? She’s had no pains or cravings or stomach aches, nothing‘I’m still in shock and the reality has yet to sink in. It’s going to take some getting used to.

Davido Kept It Fresh For Hours In Bed With Me- Pendo, Kenyan Girl Boasts

kenya (1)
Some of you know Davido just returned from Kenya right? Well there has been a particular girl who has been granting a tell it all interview about how she had sex with the music star while he was in Kenya. According to her, David kept it fresh for hours. ‘He’ is big in LENGTH and WIDTH. Such a bad girl, lol. Read what she has to say in one of the interviews below. Oh ye Kenyan ladies.
So what is all this wahala about Davido blocking you off of his facebook?
Pendo : If people had done even a little research, they would know that Davido does not even have a Facebook account. I NEVER said I was in touch with him through Facebook. I got in touch with him through a good friend of his *redacted* and that’s where everything started. He did the intro.
So, seriously, did you sleep with Davido?
Pendo: Errrrrrrrrrrm (laughs cheekily) (There is IRREFUTABLE proof that Pendo did spend the night with Nigerian superstar, if you want to see it plead with her on twitter @LoveStaicey to release it.) In the meantime, have this picture of Davido, topless, in his hotel room from his personal instagram. Maybe Pendo took it #troll
So why did you do this? Do you do this for money?
Pendo: (Laughs) No, I didn’t get money from him. I didn’t WANT money from him. I did it simply cuz I find him hot and he is pretty legit in the music industry in Africa. Yeah, I am attracted by his talent, his fame, his power, but honestly, who isn’t? And people are talking so much because a lot of women wanted to be in my shoes, but were not. I’m not afraid to go after what I want. That’s just me. And I am unapologetic for it. I am content that I got what I wanted -which was to know him- and I guess it just naturally progressed from there…
So was this a one time thing then?
Pendo: No, I would do it again. Gladly. I don’t regret it at all.
Of course you know now I am gonna ask about the “D”. Free reign, choose your own words to describe it.
Pendo: He was perfect.
Nooooooooo, more than that. DESCRIPTION.
Pendo: (Laughing) Ok, ok. Errrrrrrrrrrm, he is much better than your “average Kenyan”. He is big. Both length and width. (Giggles) And best part is he REALLY knows what he is working with.
Haha, so you loved ALL OF HIM. (SN: Hehe, see what I did there?)
Pendo: (Giggles) Ha, you won’t let this go will you. Haha, no seriously though, he has CRAZY moves, he kept it fresh for a couple hours. I am impressed. Definitely the best…(hesitates) Ok maybe not the best I ever had, but he is up there.
So was this a one night stand or will you be seeing him again?
Pendo: Davido is not only a good lover but a gentleman. Not only did he not publicise the affair, but he left me with some personal mementos to remember him. I don’t think a one night stand does that. Plus there is still communication going on. I’m not saying we are dating, but we are definitely still talking. He did not “hit it and quit it”.

Obasanjo, A Troublesome Student At National Open University

Obasanjo, A Troublesome Student At National Open University 1

The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Vincent Ado Tenebe said Monday, that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had a rewarding post-graduate career with the institution, saying that he was however a troublesome student.
Tenebe stated this in Kaduna during the breaking of Ramadan fast parley with Muslim Journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) secretariat on Sunday.
Tenebe, who also highlighted the activities of the university, pointed out that the former President completed his Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) successfully.
The Vice Chancellor said: “When Obasanjo became a student of the institution, he thought that it was an easy thing to do. When he was given all the courses he realised it wasn’t easy and so he had to differ his admission.”
He added: “He said I would not take part in this until I finish my tenure as President and so he never studied while he was the President until he completed his tenure, then he started the course. He did a post graduate diploma in Christian theology. He was a very troublesome student because he will not start calling until 12 mid night and keep you online until about 2 a.m.”
Tenebe further said, “every time he gives us trouble, we prayed that he graduates, of which he did, and his certificate is valid”.
In the pursuit of his studies, he explained, Obasanjo defied all protocols, insisting on sitting among the students, even during examination periods.
“He would say I want to do the same thing others are doing. Obasanjo was a very brilliant student and I can tell you there were lots of controversies when his papers were being marked. I won’t disclose the secret of how our papers are marked but they are marked in Port Harcourt, Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri and the markers will never know whose paper they are marking. So the old man is intelligent, his certificate is valid and was done according to rules and regulations of the Nigerian University Commission (NUC).”
Meanwhile, Professor Tenebe has disclosed that seven vice chancellors and two prominent monarchs (Oba and Emir) were undergoing degree programmes in NOUN. [Guardian]

Michael Jackson and I Were Gay Lovers ~ Scott Thorson

1 (34)
Scott Thorson, 54 — whose life with the pianist was turned into film Behind The Candelabra — said he began bedding Jacko in 1982 after he and Liberace split.
He said: “I was introduced to Michael Jackson through Liberace back in 1977 and we had a fantastic relationship.
“When we broke up in 1982, Michael swept me off my feet and said, ‘Hey, I’m breaking away from the Jackson 5. I’m going solo’. This is when the Thriller tour started. Michael swept me off my feet.”
Asked on Aussie radio if they were lovers, Scott replied: “Yes, for a short term.
“It was short term because Michael became very big at the time and his management team thought it best that we didn’t go any further with our relationship.”
He claimed they were wary of his court battle for a £73million payoff from Liberace — who died in 1987 aged 67. The case was eventually settled for just £60,000.
Scott — currently on US probation for identity theft — said he and Jacko stayed pals until the star, 50, died in 2009 from a drugs overdose.
He added: “It was very sad. But it just goes to show what these plastic surgeons can do to you — or any doctor for that matter.
“Michael started his drug addiction because of the plastic surgeons.”

The World’s Oldest Man At 112 And Oldest Woman 115

Salustiano Sanchez-Blazquez
GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) — A 112-year-old self-taught musician, coal miner and gin rummy aficionado from western New York is the world’s oldest man, according to Guinness World Records Ltd.
Salustiano Sanchez-Blazquez became the world’s oldest man when Jiroemon Kimura died June 12 at age 116.
The world’s oldest person is a woman, 115-year-old Misao Okawa of Japan.
Guinness World Records used census reports, immigration papers, marriage records and news reports to confirm the record.
Robert Young, senior gerontology consultant with Guinness World Records, said 90 percent of all super centenarians are female and Salustiano is currently the only male born in 1901 with proof of birth.

Born June 8, 1901, in village of El Tejado de Bejar, Spain, he was known for his talent on the dulzania, a double-reed wind instrument that he taught himself and played at weddings and village celebrations. At 17, he moved with his older brother Pedro and a group of friends to Cuba, where they worked in the cane fields.
In 1920, he came to the United States through Ellis Island and worked in the coal mines of Lynch, Ky. Ultimately, he moved to the Niagara Falls area of New York, where he still lives, working in construction and in the industrial furnaces. He married his wife, Pearl, in 1934.
In a statement provided by Guinness World Records, Salustiano — whose nickname is “Shorty” — said he was humbled by the attention, saying he didn’t feel he accomplished anything special just because he has lived longer than most.
“He says, ‘I’m an old man and let’s leave it at that,’” said his daughter, 69-year-old Irene Johnson. Salustiano lived with Johnson in Grand Island after his wife died in 1988; he moved to a nursing home in 2007.
“We did our best,” Johnson said. “We weren’t going to put him somewhere just because he was old.”
Salustiano said his longevity can be attributed to eating one banana per day and his daily dose of six Anacin tablets. His daughter has another theory.
“I think it’s just because he’s an independent, stubborn man,” she said.
Besides his daughter, he has a 76-year-old son, John, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Rihanna Slapped With $47K Fine For Missing Multiple Depositions

Rihanna-Slapped-With-Hefty-Fine
Rihanna’s multiple missed court dates in a suit which sees her suing her former accountants will now tap into her deep pockets. A judge fined the music superstar $47,050 for failing to appear in court for her deposition. Her former money managers, Berdon LLP, had asked the judge to fine Rihanna $100,000, expenses they’ve incurred for multiple missed appearances from Rihanna including a scheduled date in London to accommodate the entertainer’s touring schedule.
June 19 was the last missed court date, which according to Berdon, Rihanna claimed she was sick, but was tweeting the same day about her tour performance.
Berdon LLP has asked the judge to drop the multi-million dollar lawsuit, filed by Rihanna and her team, but the judge has scheduled a final meeting for August 28 to get the matter resolved. If Rihanna fail to appear, she stand a chance at losing millions.

Mother Brings Baby Back To Life With Two Hours Of Loving Cuddles After Doctors Pronounced Him Dead

mother bring child to life
It was a final chance to say goodbye for grieving mother Kate Ogg after doctors gave up hope of saving her premature baby. She tearfully told her lifeless son – born at 27 weeks weighing 2lb – how much she loved him and cuddled him tightly, not wanting to let him go. Although little Jamie’s twin sister Emily had been delivered successfully, doctors had given Mrs Ogg the news all mothers dread – that after 20 minutes of battling to get her son to breathe, they had declared him dead.
Having given up on a miracle, Mrs Ogg unwrapped the baby from his blanket and held him against her skin. And then an extraordinary thing happened. After two hours of being hugged, touched and spoken to by his mother, the little boy began showing signs of life.
At first, it was just a gasp for air that was dismissed by doctors as a reflex action. But then the startled mother fed him a little breast milk on her finger and he started breathing normally.
‘I thought, “Oh my God, what’s going on”,’ said Mrs Ogg. ‘A short time later he opened his eyes. It was a miracle. Then he held out his hand and grabbed my finger. ‘He opened his eyes and moved his head from side to side. The doctor kept shaking his head saying, “I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it”.’
The Australian mother spoke publicly for the first time yesterday to highlight the importance of skin-on-skin care for sick babies, which is being used at an increasing number of British hospitals.
Mrs Ogg and her husband David told how doctors gave up on saving their son after a three-hour labour in a Sydney hospital in March. The doctor asked me had we chosen a name for our son,’ said Mrs Ogg. ‘I said, “Jamie”, and he turned around with my son already wrapped up and said, “We’ve lost Jamie, he didn’t make it, sorry”.

‘It was the worse feeling I’ve ever felt. I unwrapped Jamie from his blanket. He was very limp. ‘I took my gown off and arranged him on my chest with his head over my arm and just held him. He wasn’t moving at all and we just started talking to him. ‘We told him what his name was and that he had a sister. We told him the things we wanted to do with him throughout his life.’
Jamie occasionally gasped for air, which doctors said was a reflex action. But then I felt him move as if he were startled, then he started gasping more and more regularly. ‘I gave Jamie some breast milk on my finger, he took it and started regular breathing.’
Mrs Ogg held her son, now five months old and fully recovered, as she spoke on the Australian TV show Today Tonight. Her husband added: ‘Luckily I’ve got a very strong, very smart wife. ‘She instinctively did what she did. If she hadn’t done that, Jamie

Frank Ocean Disses Chris Brown In “Versace” Freestyle?

frank
Frank Ocean is as introverted as they come. Aside from his music, the singer’s open letters are the most consistent source information about his current disposition. His latest written piece happens to be a freestyle, of sorts, to summer anthem contender, “Versace.”
Like rappers who took the beat to task prior, Ocean adopts the flow popularized by Drake and Migos. But even more surprising was the the Grammy winner’s not-so-sneak diss directed at noted nemesis Chris Brown in the opening bars.
“Versace, Versace I’ll play the piano/I’m not Liberace/You could stay seated, I’m taking that Grammy/Your music is sloppy” wrote Ocean wittily.
And just when you thought he and the “Fine China” crooner buried the hatch, this happens.
There’s currently no word on if Ocean will liberate actual audio for his verse..

Kanye West Will Not Be Prosecuted In Paparazzo Attack

kanye (1)
CLICK HERE TO READ ORIGINAL POST
Kanye West will not be charged or prosecuted for attempting to take the camera of a paparazzo at LAX late last week.
TMZ reports: LAPD robbery detectives are investigating the photog’s allegation that Kanye tried to steal his camera — but our sources say that dog won’t hunt. The D.A. will NEVER charge Kanye with felony attempted robbery, because there’s no proof he tried to pilfer the camera at LAX.
We’re told cops will send the attempted robbery file to the D.A. and they expect it will be rejected within days. The next step — the file goes to the L.A. City Attorney for a possible misdemeanor criminal battery prosecution. But here’s why that won’t happen.
We’re told Kanye is willing to ante up some cash to make the case go away, and it’s perfectly legal. It’s called a civil compromise and it’s done everyday. So Kanye will skate … and probably attack another photog.
TMZ seems kind of mad, eh? That’s probably because the photographer during the previous “Don’t talk, ever” altercation at LAX was from the news site, so they probably feel a ways. Hopefully West will take this as a warning because you can’t pay yourself out of trouble by offering up cash all the time.

Kanye West & Kim K Spend $750K On 4 Gold Plated Toilets

kimand kanye
When sitting on the throne (in the bathroom), Kanye West and his girlfriend Kim Kardashian want nothing but the best. How else to explain the couple reportedly dropping $750,000 on four gold plated toilets for their $11M Bel Air, Calif. mansion?
Toilet bowls aren’t the only items that Yeezy and Kim K dspent major coin on. The UK Sun reports:
KIM KARDASHIAN and KANYE WEST have spent just over £500,000 on four gold-plated toilets for their new gaff.
The couple have been staying with Kim’s mum KRIS JENNER while work on their new mansion in LA’s Bel Air is finished. Now that they have a completion date they have started buying furniture and fittings.
Kanye has ordered six special-edition beds from the company that supplies London’s Savoy Hotel, costing £114,000 each.
They are also kitting out their kitchen with almost £500,000 of Electrolux gear and a Swarovski- encrusted fridge freezer.
A source said: “They expect the interior to cost twice as much as the property. They’re spending more than a million on a security system alone.”
According to the New York Post, the beds work out to about $174,000 each.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian clearly have plenty of disposable income.

Before I write a Book ~ By Basket Mouth

Basketmouth1
I love writing and this touched me.Basket Mouth Chronicles the beginning of his career as a comedian in a series titled”Before I write a book” This first episode proves that more often than not, great men start from really humble beginnings. He also shows how far one can go when others believe in your dreams
Read Below…
“”Back stage at the Rothmans Groove tour which held @ TBS in 1998, there I was seated with the likes of The Plantashun Boiz,Dr. Fresh,Remedies and more…I was just a young boy trying to weigh his options on what direction to go with his career as drumming, rapping, producing and comedy were few of my options.
That night was the 1st time I met Tony Tetuila, one of those humble guys you come by,he was warm and accommodating considering the obvious fact that I was nobody in the industry.
Fast forward a few months later, Comedy had won me over and in the course of my hustle and journey to where I’m yet to get to, I bumped into Tetuila in Festac, just about the time his single ‘you don hit my car’ came out.
We reconnected while playing catch up. We had common friends so ‘bumping’ into each other became a tradition. The 1st time he saw me perform @ a concert was at a gig The Plantashun Boiz used to host @ the Den in Ikeja.
I must have impressed him because not long after that night, I got a call from him asking that we meet up. We did and he took me for a meeting in Lagos Island (Shell Office). A director at Shell was retiring and a send-forth party was being held in his honour. My performance fee then was N10,000, Tony pushed it up and convinced the client to pay N30,000 which they paid cash. Prior to this, they had never heard of me and only used me because Tony believed in me and stood up for me, convincing them to buy in.
I was paid in full a week to the show.
After picking up the cash I went straight home. Now here I was, a young comic with his 1st major pay-out of N30,000. Considering the fact that my 1st performance fee was N300 (1%) of what I had in my pocket,I couldn’t help but to thank God.
I got home, gave my mum N25,000 and kept N5,000 from which I bought a shirt, pants and shoes from Tejuosho market to wear for the event. Ready for my first big show..

Denrele Edun Reveals ~ Being Feminine Doesn’t Mean I’m Gay

denrele3
Adenrele Olufemi Edun is one celebrity with a wild personality and a VJ who has earned a reputation for being really good at what he does. In this interview with Doyin Adeoye, he talks about his style, his last moments with artiste, Goldie, the gay allegations and controversies, among other things.
What exactly was your relationship with Goldie?
Susan Olubimpe Harvey aka Goldie and I were best of friends and whilst in death, we still remain best of friends. I met her in 2006 around the time I featured in Dbanj’s ‘Why me’ video which many artistes loved and also wanted me to be in their video. So I received a call from her and when we met at her house, then she told me she wanted me to be in her video. She gave me the song to go and listen to, but funny enough, I didn’t even listen to the song, but I told her I liked it. I remember she offered to pay me N50, 000, which was a really good deal back then, but I featured in the video without collecting any money from her and that was how we struck our friendship and became very good friends.
What are your memories of her?
We shared a lot of memories together that was so much fun. Since Goldie had been in the industry, there was none of her videos that I wasn’t a part of. We were so close that we practically knew everything about each other. We had the same body proportion, despite her womanly curves. We could both fit perfectly into each other’s outfit especially when I wanted to get something for or her or vice versa. We used the same shoe size, we loved the same taste of perfume and music and we were just so really close.
I remember once when I had typhoid and malaria and Goldie’s last performance was at the Ember Creek. She was to perform with a life band, something she had never done before and that worried her. Artistes like MI, Sasha, Nneka and others had performed and she was the last person to perform. I introduced her to the stage and despite how sick I was, we danced so hard at the show that night and it was really fun.
Can you share your last moments with her?
I was with her when she came back from the Grammies and I wouldn’t say I watched her die, but rather, I saw her die. I was at the hospital and I saw as she was taken to the morgue and I can say whilst in death, we still had the connection.
News had it that you said Goldie died in your arms…
I guess I was misquoted because I didn’t say anything of such. What happened was that I was there when she got back and she just started complaining of headache that came from nowhere. She started crying and gasping for breath. So we rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
I couldn’t easily comprehend what happened because she had never been sick and the only thing that ever worried her was flu and cough. But I guess people wanted answers at the time and because I couldn’t talk then, they started making generalisations. It was a crazy period for me and I also went through a lot after her death.
Some also say you introduced her to drugs.
What’s your take on that?
Goldie and I never did drugs. The only thing we ever took was white wine, which wouldn’t even exceed one glass. She loved white wine and I started drinking it because of her. There was never a time that drug was involved between us and I guess people just misunderstood what they saw, because they found it hard to see two friends in the same industry who do not see themselves as competitors or rivals, but rather looking out for the best interest in the next person. And such was the world of Goldie and I.
You had issues with her family over her death…
Well, I believe when you are friends with someone and something like this happens, the family would want to know what actually happened and the only person to give the answers would be the closest friend.
Fortunately for me, the day Goldie came back, her younger brother was at my house, he had been around two days before then. Goldie never told me she was coming back that day, as she wanted to surprise me. So I’m grateful her brother was around. But as Yoruba, such scenario is not farfetched and more so, the family needed answers and felt there were mysteries involved. So I was in the middle of it all and there was nothing I could do, than to live through it.
You were supposed to start a reality show together…
Yes and it had even started airing. Actually I was approached to a do a reality show, where I would be followed for a couple of weeks and it would be documented. So I decided to do it with her because it was at the point when she came back from Big Brother Africa (BBA) and things weren’t going on too well for her. Many Nigerians judged her from what they saw on BBA, so I felt it was a way to break the jinx and it was exciting.
Talking about your personality, who is Denrele in and out of the house?
I don’t think there is a clear distinction between the two. I’m the same person both indoors and out there and the way I relate with my audience is the same way I relate with my family. The only side of me I might say people don’t know is that, I’m very sentimental when it comes to my family and I’m very strict with my siblings.
So I’m just the same person; fun loving, unpredictable, wild, and as some would say, humble. I don’t have a personal assistant, a manager or a PR person. I do most of the things myself.
When exactly did you grow into this personality?
I used to be very shy when I was much younger and for the transformation, I would guess that it was the environment where I grew up, because as a young person, I never had the opportunity to express my individuality. It was not until I got out on Kiddie Vision 101 that I decided to evolve into somebody else.
Although I was still a bit shy and I couldn’t put my hair out, so I would tie a scarf and afterwards use a hairnet, so that my hair would be suppressed. Also I would wear baggy jeans and shirts because I was little worried about how skinny I was. I felt I look unhealthy and I had a little insecurity about how I looked. But when I gained admission into UNILAG, I wasn’t sure and by then I used to wear face caps, but then I got into modeling. The first person I ever modeled for was Kesse Jabari and that encouraged me that my skinniness was worth something.
So I would cut the two shirts and jeans I had then into different designs and make my hair into different styles. Everyone in UNLAG thought I had gone mad, my lecturers were outraged and even my close friends refused to work with me. At that point, I had a lot of negative criticisms. But my parents were very supportive, they know I don’t drink, smoke or womanize, so they just let me be. But I also had the negative attitudes from some of my family members. All I wanted to do was express my individuality.
So is Denrele gay?
I think people believe what they want to believe.
But a lot of people believe you are. And to prove them right, a picture of you Charley Boy went viral on the internet recently…
I don’t read the news, I make the news. The thing is people tend to look for loopholes when they see you doing well. And since people feel I’m feminine in nature, then they think I’m gay. But the truth is I don’t really care about what people say because I’m not fashioned according to what the society expects. And also I think for my personality, if I were gay, the news would have grown from speculations and would have been in people’s face.
On the part of Charley Boy and me, I was not expecting the paparazzi that came with the picture.
So what was the picture about then?
I really don’t want to go into details, but it could have been a controversial agenda, it could have a been a publicity stunt, it could have been the real deal and it could have been photoshopped, but whatever it was, people should just go ahead and make their conclusions.
So why is Denrele still single?
I’m a hustler and I’m still trying to get myself together. When the time comes, I’ll get married definitely, but there’s no one in the picture now. I’m searching and ready to mingle.
Who is your ideal woman?
I like someone who would not try to change me and who would understand the complexity that I am. I want someone simple and absolutely free and not intimidated by what I represent.
Family background
My dad is from Abeokuta in Ogun State, while my mum is partly Indian and part Mauritian. My Indian name is Rajeev Raja. I was born in Hamburg, Germany and I have two younger sisters that are really so dear to me.
How was your childhood?
I was not born with a silver spoon, but I’ve worked very hard to create one. Although I grew up under a privileged family and at a point life was rosy, then my father lost his job and everything became a reversal of fortune. I had to leave private school I was attending and we had to move out of her duplex. I remember at a time, we were living in an uncompleted building. Everything was just crazy, at a time I had to live with an uncle, where I was more like a house boy, but eventually I was kicked out of the house in the middle of the night and it was during this time that I felt the need to strive for self independence and this process of self actualization started when I was about 11, when I started presenting on Kiddie Vision 101 on NTA.
Words for your fans
I want to appreciate everyone that has appreciated, celebrated and acknowledged me over the years

No Age Restriction in Islamic Marriage – Director of Muslim Rights Concern

No Age Restriction in Islamic Marriage – Director of Muslim Rights ConcernProf. Ishaq Akintola, Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has expressed support for the controversial underage marriage law currently generating furore in the polity.
In a statement sent to African Examiner, an online magazine, he said teen marriage was in order, stressing that there is “no age factor in Islamic Marriage”.
According to him, “The conditions of marriage in Islam are four: Proposal and acceptance (al-Ijaab wa alqubuul), approval by both parents (ridaa alwaalidayn), payment of a dowry by the groom (al-mihr) and the presence of at least two male witnesses at the ceremony (shaahidayn ‘aadilayn).
“Age is therefore not part of the conditions which must be met before marriage can be solemnised in Islam. Where the bride is a ‘minor’, Islam prescribes protective solemnisation of marriage without consummation.
“This means that the girl who is deemed to be of tender age is left untouched by the man until she attains puberty. Another major condition for child marriage is that the girl herself has the right to repudiate the marriage when she attains maturity if she does not like her ‘spouse’.”
“Islam is a complete way of life and its institutions (including that of marriage) are based on divinely ordained and well documented rules. Whoever wishes to legislate constructively or comment objectively on any aspect of Islam must therefore arm himself with the divine and documentary evidence. Anything short of this will earn lawmakers and commentators disrespect and contempt of Islamdom,” he quipped.
