Beautiful, talented and every inch a high profile celebrity, Yvonne Nelson is no stranger to attention from the media and fans alike. Following her highly publicised relationship and eventual break up with musician, Iyanya, the Ghanaian actress braved the odds and took to the media to share her side of the story in a no holds barred interview with entertainment and lifestyle site, Bella Naija.

When the going was good

While many empathised with her situation, others called her out for getting involved in such a high profile relationship in the first place, their point – if you don’t like the heat, then by all means leave the kitchen. But with all of this, she remained unfazed, holding her head up and standing by her story making one thing clear, Yvonne Nelson is anything but shy of attention and has absolutely no problem with putting her business out there.

So when she shared a munched screen image of a supposed death threat warning sent to her by a ‘concerned person’ earlier in the day, it came as no big surprise when rather than receive some show of concern, she received major backlash for the move instead. The message which was shared on her Instagram account had urged her to be careful as someone in the entertainment industry wants her dead. She also went on to say that she had sent the message to the police and thanked fans for the love…and then came the onslaught. While some called her out for her obsession with social media, others claimed she had infact sent the message to herself and asked her to stop playing games lest she gets what she’s looking for.

So the question is who really wants Yvonne Nelson dead? With a thriving career and a juicy endorsement deal with Zaron cosmetics, there’s no doubt that Yvonne is enjoying a spate of good fortune financially but is it enough to make her a target of murder or is the ‘House of Gold’ actress really just seeking attention as some of her fans have alluded? More importantly if the actress really did receive such a message, is social media the best place to share such a sensitive piece of information irrespective of the fact that she said she had shared the message with the police?

Yahoo Overtakes Google in Monthly Traffic Stats

For the first time in more than two years Yahoo is coming out on top ahead of google in terms of overall web traffic. According to ComScore’s Media Metric, which ranks the top U.S. web sites, Yahoo’s web properties edged ahead of Google’s in unique visitors during the month of July. Yahoo notched 196.6 million uniques, while Google trailed behind with 192.3 million.

The last time Yahoo led Google was in May 2011, according to ComScore. Yahoo’s lead was first reported by website Marketing Land. When reached by ABC News, Yahoo said it did not comment on third-party traffic reports. Google did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.

The numbers are not based on just how many people are visiting Yahoo.com versus Google.com.

Instead, ComScore rolls all of each company’s sites into one bucket. “There is a misconception in thinking Yahoo.com is overtaking Google.com,” Andrew Lipsman, ComScore’s vice president of industry analysis, told ABC News. “Yahoo owns a lot of different channels. Flickr, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News and others all roll up into this number.” However, Yahoo’s numbers don’t include Tumblr’s traffic, which it acquired for $1.1 billion in May.

Lipsman said that Yahoo’s surge isn’t exactly a comeback. “It’s not that this has come out of nowhere. This has always been there. Yahoo has usually been a close second; it wasn’t so long ago that Yahoo was No. 1.” He also said it could be a seasonal leap. Still, the jump for Yahoo represents a continuation in momentum since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO a little more than a year ago.

Mayer has looked to improve key properties, including redesigns of Yahoo.com and Flickr. She has also purchased a number of start-ups. But Google might re-emerge as the winner soon, at least when it comes to including mobile phone traffic. “Our multi-platform numbers, which includes mobile with desktop traffic, will be released next week,” Lipsman said. “I think people will be looking to see who takes the top spot there, it should provide some boost to Google.”

Has-Been: U.S Star, Brandy, Performs To 90,000 Empty Seats In South Africa

It hasn’t been confirmed though, because these reports originated from the South African Twitterverse.

American R&B Star, Brandy was stood up or should I say disgraced as she performed to a crowd of 40 in a stadium meant for 90,000 people.

Brandy was a surprise guest at the FNB stadium in Soweto, but unfortunately no one knew she was playing.

80% of the people had already left before Brandy mounted on stage.

“Brandy [just] performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on,” tweeted South African musician, Kabomo.

“People didn’t know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience … She sulked after two songs and walked off.

“There are more people there on a random Tuesday… Depressing.”

Added @My2_Melo: “I gave up the min I saw the empty stadium. Brandy performing for the chairs!”

While @dawn_ngwenya said: “Brandy is going to perform for herself and Mbaks only,” referring to South Africa’s minister of sport, Fikile Mbalula.

The singer reportedly walked off in embarrassment after just two songs.

The country’s national TV channel SABC reportedly also ended their broadcast of the concert before Brandy could even emerge on stage

It was a big night for the YMCMB family. The hip-hop crew was honored during a star-studded evening at the 2013 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards at the Manhattan Center in New York City on Thursday night.

Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams were named BMI Icons. The brothers, who co-founded Cash Money Records in 1991, received an all-star tribute, which included performances by Kevin Rudolf, DJ Khaled, Mystikal, Future, Curren$y, Ace Hood, Busta Rhymes, Turk, Mannie Fresh, and Juvenile, who performed his classic “Back That Azz Up.”

Kendrick Lamar experienced a huge increase in his social media following in wake of “Control,” as did every one of the rapper’s mentioned.

Kendrick Lamar’s verse in “Control” certainly got a lot of people talking about the rapper. In fact, it got a lot of people talking about a lot of rappers– namely those mentioned in the track. Looking at some stats from each of the emcees social media accounts, it looks like they all gained a considerable amount of followers from the hype around the song.

K.Dot experienced a rise of 122% in Facebook conversation, and gained 88,000 new fans (a 138% increase from the previous week). Lamar also collected a massive 208,000 more Twitter followers (an additional 510% from the week prior). 35 Cradle Snatchers…

They seat old men on wise chairs,
But lacking the tenets of wisdom.
They gather in circle, house of elders,
Minds preoccupied with thoughts of fools.
This throne of legislation of our Nation,
House of Senate now a Room of Sin-Mates.

They thrust their fingers fast in the air,
Singing choruses of “Aye’s” and “Nay’s”.
Ask me if the world seeks to know,
They just want to see which way the wind blows.
For they can’t think nor see beyond their nose.
Child’s Right clearly points how clueless they’ve become.

With our votes they ascended that esteemed seat,
Now they assemble a law to desecrate our seeds.
They roam our lands coveting virgin soils,
Seeking whom to implant their seeds of discord.
Taking a furtive ride on her ignorance,
All to soil and deface her innocence.

Not even animals plug fruits when not ripe,
But beast of men on legislative towers,
Who bites the bud before it sprouts flowers.

TGIF: What About The Waiter’s Tip?

It’s basically a normal gesture to drop something to those who serve you and serve you well, careless wherever that ‘service’ takes place. It is also very common for hosts, waiters and waitresses to survive the rainy days on tips. But some people are beginning to develop the ‘none tipping’ skills even after a waiter serves –smiles, laughs and talks unnecessarily- well.

What a Tipper!

Could this new development become a major set back in the demand for waiting jobs or affect the number of people who eat out? In Nigeria for example (Lagos as case study), many people eat out because they claim they don’t have the time to eat home-made meals since they spend all day in the office and on traffic. So when you make the restaurant your new diner, which you neither clean nor cook in, can’t you at least tip those who do?

The habit of tips wasn’t born from ‘paying off’ a servant. The word was “appreciating” those who are doing what you couldn’t do and doing it remarkably well. They need you as client and you need to feed or quench that thirst. The tip goes a long way to keep you protected, better and faster served as well as comfortable. So why not give?

“Tips are not an insult to a waitress and do not classify how heavy a client’s pocket is. I believe it’s a sign of satisfaction for being treated extremely friendly or as family. Should it become a habit for customers to provide extra pay for services in public restaus or bars?

“Hell no! If I don’t want to give, I won’t give! The pretentious smiles on some waiter’s face or irrelevant discussions could turn me off instead. No client is forced to dash money, it’s something with the mood you are at that moment or how neat the environment or how delicious the food is that makes us tip.”… a client at The Place Lekki – Lagos.

“It all depends on where you are working actually. A waiter at Sheraton Hotel for instance is likely to send a child to school from tips given the caliber of clients who lounge there. Meanwhile others might end up washing plates till the day they resign from a local restaurant”… a waiter (ZAAZ Hotel, Opebi-Lagos) narrates.

What’s This Waiter waiting for?

Does it mean that, ‘mama pout’ joints (local eateries) might likely not see any extra payments except a client forgets his ‘change’? Do people apply to become waiters because of these tips or because there are no jobs at all or perhaps they just love being waiters?

That not withstanding, Tips go a mile to encourage proper service and probably could act as ‘the help’in those dark days. Clients shouldn’t use their tips to be aggressive to a waitress or be clumsy on the table or be rude. Allow the waiter do his job! But it is also the full responsibility of a waiter to serve well, tip or no tip. A waiter makes sure his clients feel at home with the best products served. Neatness andpatience becomes a waiter’s best friend while rudeness and laziness are thrown out the window at all times.

Waiter With An Attitude!

However the case may be, Tips have an important role to play in public businesses and even at home, that’s if you will want the best services from someone else. Why not become penny foolish, pound wise?

The device which will reportedly be called the Galaxy Gear will come in five different colours including white, orange, grey, black and an exclusive white gold. Above all is the functionality of the watches; in addition to serving as a timepiece and fashion accessory, users of the smartwatch will be able to make calls, send emails and surf the web all with the smart watch.
The part techno gadget and fashion accessory is set to be released either in the last week of September or early October. With Google glasses and now the Samsung smart watch, its clear that tech giants are gradually shifting focus from just phones, tablets and computers serving as communication tools. Rather, tech companies are now exploring the notion of fashion accessories serving as techno gadgets, thereby bridging the gap between fashion and technology.

Now she’s added to that, as Yesterday Wednesday 21st August 2013, the 34 year old Nollywood star was featured on ELLE.com’s “International Superstars: The Next Big Crossover Acts” List.

One of the most powerful actresses working in Africa, Nnaji began her career at age eight, and has been constantly working in commercials and movies ever since. She’s credited with putting Nollywood, Nigeria’s Hollywood, on the map.

Wentworth, who played the lead character Michael Scofield in Prison Break came out as a gay man yesterday August 21 via an open letter to the Saint Petersburg Film Festival, rejecting an invitation to attend a premiere there because of Russia’s recently-passed anti-gay laws.


The  41-year-old actor wrote:

Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline.

I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.

Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.

Protest In Ikorodu As Police Kills 21-Year Old Okada Rider Who Was A FUTA Student

A policeman in Ikorodu has killed an Okada rider who is believed to be a student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) for disobeying traffic law.
According to a family member, Kunle came back home from school when ASUU went on strike. He started riding Okada because he was broke and needs money for his up keep. Okada men have been protesting since yesterday evening when the unfortunate incident happened, and decided to battle the Police. Unfortunately, two more lives were lost.
